CO2 Laser
The carbon dioxide laser (CO2 laser) was one of the earliest gas lasers to be developed. It was invented by Kumar Patel of Bell Labs in 1964, and is still one of the most useful. Carbon dioxide lasers are the highest-power continuous wave lasers that are currently available. They are also quite efficient: the ratio of output power to pump power can be as large as 20%. The CO2 laser produces a beam of infrared light with the principal wavelength bands centering on 9.4 and 10.6 micrometers (μm). (wikipedia.org)
Design
The design is based open a broken outlet of a distillation retort. The glass tube is used. the diameter of one side is bigger than the other side however. -I am hoping this does not affect the final design; it may just be harder to control the beam of light.
This is the rendered design of the upper flange.
The end to the right is the upper flange and the opposite end is a mirror. For the mirror I plan on using a plain glass mirror but i may create or silver mirror or one based on highly polished copper.
This is the a general design for a laser.
Upcoming up: Build flange, Gas
Control Valves
